How does ClipVault capture my clipboard?
ClipVault uses Chrome's Offscreen Document API and copy/cut event listeners to capture clipboard content automatically. Every time you press Ctrl+C, Cmd+C, or use the right-click copy menu, ClipVault saves the text or image instantly — no extra steps needed.
Is my clipboard data sent to any server?
No — never. All clipboard data is stored 100% locally on your device using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. ClipVault has zero external API calls, zero analytics, and zero third-party scripts. Your data never leaves your browser.
Does ClipVault save passwords?
No. ClipVault automatically excludes known banking and password manager domains from clipboard capture. You can also add custom domains to your exclusion list in Settings → Privacy → Excluded Domains.
How many clips can I save?
The free version saves up to 50 clipboard entries (both text and images). When the limit is reached, the oldest unpinned clip is automatically removed to make room for the new one. Pinned clips are never auto-removed.
Can I use ClipVault on Edge, Brave, or other browsers?
Yes! ClipVault works on all Chromium-based browsers including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi. Simply install from the Chrome Web Store and it will work across all supported browsers.
How do I delete all my clipboard data?
Open ClipVault → click the gear ⚙️ icon → scroll to the Data section → click "Delete All Data". This permanently removes all clips, settings, and history. You can also delete individual clips by hovering over a card and clicking the delete button.
Can I export and import my clipboard history?
Yes. Go to Settings → Data → click "Export" to download a JSON file of all your clips. To restore, click "Import" and select a previously exported JSON file. This is great for backups or migrating to a new computer.
The floating copy button isn't showing up?
The floating button appears when you select text or click on an image on web pages. It won't appear on Chrome internal pages (chrome://, chrome-extension://) or if the domain is in your excluded list. Try selecting text on any regular website like google.com. If it still doesn't work, try removing and re-adding the extension.

🔄 Clips not being captured?

Make sure the extension has clipboard permission. Click the ClipVault icon — if you see a permission banner, click "Allow". Also check that the website is not in your excluded domains list. Some Chrome internal pages (chrome://) don't allow clipboard access.

📋 Paste-back not working?

The paste-back feature requires the target input field to be focused before opening ClipVault. Click on the text field first, then open ClipVault and click the paste button. Note: paste-back may not work on some heavily customized editors (e.g., Monaco, CodeMirror).

🖼️ Images not being captured?

Image capture requires clipboard read permission, which some browsers restrict. Make sure you're using the latest version of Chrome (v110+). Try copying an image using right-click → "Copy image" on a regular web page.

⚡ Extension feels slow or unresponsive?

Try clearing old clips: go to Settings → set "Auto-clear" to 7 days, or manually export and delete all data. ClipVault stores data locally, so very large image collections can slow storage reads. Keeping under 50 clips ensures optimal performance.
