ClipVault — Privacy Policy

Overview

ClipVault is a clipboard history manager Chrome extension that stores your copied text and images locally on your device. Your privacy is our top priority — ClipVault is designed to work entirely offline with zero external communication.

Data Collection

ClipVault collects the following data, all stored locally on your device:

Clipboard text — text you copy while browsing, saved using Chrome's built-in local storage.
Clipboard images — images you copy to the system clipboard, stored as Base64-encoded data in Chrome's local storage.
Source domain — the website hostname where you copied the content, to help you identify where a clip came from.
Timestamps — the date and time each clip was saved, used for sorting and auto-clear functionality.
User preferences — your settings such as theme choice, max clip count, excluded domains, and auto-clear duration.

Data Storage

All data is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). Your clipboard data never leaves your device. There is no server, no cloud syncing, and no external database.

ClipVault does not use chrome.storage.sync and does not sync any data across devices.

Data Sharing

ClipVault does not share, sell, or transmit any of your data to any third party. No data is collected by the developer. Period.

Analytics & Tracking

ClipVault uses no analytics, no tracking pixels, no telemetry, no cookies, and no third-party scripts of any kind. There are zero network requests made by the extension.

Sensitive Data Protection

ClipVault includes built-in protections for sensitive data:

Auto-excluded domains — known banking, financial, and password manager websites are automatically excluded from clipboard capture.
Custom domain exclusion — you can add any domain to the exclusion list from the Settings page.
Deletion blocklist — when you delete a clip, its hash is remembered to prevent it from being re-captured.

However, please be mindful when copying sensitive information such as passwords or financial data. We recommend adding any sensitive domains to the exclusion list.

Permissions Used

ClipVault requests only the permissions necessary for its core functionality:

Permission	Why It's Needed
`clipboardRead`	To read text and images from your clipboard and save them in history
`clipboardWrite`	To paste previously copied clips back to your clipboard when you click "Copy"
`storage`	To save your clipboard history and settings locally on your device
`alarms`	To periodically check for new clipboard content in the background
`activeTab`	To detect the source website of copied content for source tracking
`offscreen`	To access the clipboard via an offscreen document without requiring a visible tab
`host_permissions`	To detect copy events and enable paste-back functionality on any website

Data Deletion

You have full control over your data at all times:

Delete individual clips — swipe or click the delete button on any clip in the popup
Clear all clips — click "Clear All" in the popup footer
Delete all data — open Settings → Data section → click "Delete All Data"
Uninstall — uninstalling the extension permanently deletes all stored data

Data Export

You can export all your clipboard data as a JSON file at any time from the Settings page. This file is saved directly to your device — no data is transmitted over the network during export or import.

Children's Privacy

ClipVault does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The extension processes only content that the user explicitly copies to their clipboard.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
